NEW DELHI: Former economic affairs secretary Atanu Chakraborty is probable to be the up coming chairperson of the country’s greatest personal sector financial institution HDFC Bank, sources stated.
He would replace Shyamala Gopinath, who is set to finish her expression in January.
In accordance to the sources, the lender has advisable the name of Chakraborty for appointment as the part-time chairperson, subject to the Reserve Bank of India‘s acceptance.
Chakraborty, a 1985 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, retired as secretary of department of financial affairs in April 2020. Prior to that, he was secretary of office of financial commitment and public asset administration (DIPAM). Both of those departments arrive below the finance ministry.
The tenure of Gopinath, a former RBI deputy governor, is ending on January 1, 2021. She was appointed as the chairperson in January 2015.
The bank’s board, at its assembly held on Monday, determined to advise the name of Chakraborty and submitted its advice to the RBI for approval less than segment 35B of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, the resources stated.
Once he is appointed as the chairperson, HDFC Bank will be the 2nd non-public sector loan company to have a former bureaucrat in the chairperson post. ICICI Financial institution is chaired by previous petroleum secretary and added secretary in the finance ministry G C Chaturvedi.
