Delhi Congress workers staged a demonstration reciting ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ in protest versus the demolition of a temple in Chandni Chowk on Saturday. The protesters led by the party’s Delhi device president Anil Kumar assembled at Gauri Shankar Mandir and ended up stopped by police when they ended up moving to the demolition web-site.
The Congress staff chanted ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ and raised slogans from the BJP and the AAP. The Hanuman temple was demolished by the BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on court orders. It was demolished as an “encroachment” to pave way for Chandni Chowk redevelopment job of the Delhi authorities.
“We needed to keep the protest at the demolition website, but the police put up barricades to prevent the Congress staff from achieving there… so we recited Hanuman Chalisa in entrance of the Gauri Shankar Mandir,” Kumar explained. The Delhi Congress has sought time to satisfy Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Monday to chat about the Hanuman temple situation, he said.
“The temple could have been saved had the BJP-ruled NDMC and the Arvind Kejriwal govt revealed thought to the sentiments of the people of old Delhi and other folks coming there from various components of the region,” the Delhi Congress president explained.
