UN head ‘strongly condemns’ armed service detention of Myanmar leaders

UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-Normal Antonio Guterres has condemned the armed forces detention of Myanmar’s leaders in a coup, such as de facto chief Aung San Suu Kyi.
“The Secretary-Standard strongly condemns the detention of Condition Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Gain Myint and other political leaders on the eve of the opening session of Myanmar’s new parliament,” spokesman Stephane Dujarric stated in a statement.
“These developments depict a major blow to democratic reforms in Myanmar.”
